1. Avoid the overfeeding of the fish- When you over feed your fish then it increases the rate of algae development, because extra food present in water fulfill the nutritional needs of Algae. Moreover, fish create more body waste as they eat more. And this body waste of fish is a perfect fertilizer for growth of algae.

2. Water change- If your aquarium is enabled with some good quality mechanical/biological filter, then it will automatically remove the extra nutrients present in water of pond or aquarium. But even a superior quality filter is not able to give 100 % efficiency. So, you should change water of you’re the aquarium for at least once (or more) in a month.

3. Light exposures- It is a well known fact that algae is a photosynthetic organism. They use sun light for all type of bio chemical processes. They depend on sun light even for their growth. So you should make sure that your aquarium is not in exposure to the sun light. You should also turn off the aquarium lights at night.

4. Cleaning of the aquarium- During the monthly change of water, you should remove all the decorative objects (plants, stones, bubble former) of the aquarium along with the water of the aquarium. Just scrub the objects using hot water. This through out cleaning will minimize the possibilities of rapid algae growth. If the siphon (used for changing water) is not working properly, then you should turn over the gravel, and do it with your own hands. 5. Algae pad- Algae pads can be used to scratch out the algae from the glass. They are very useful because they are not able to produce any scratches on the glass. One should move a pad in circular motions for decent removal of algae. Sometimes a little force is required for scratching out the algae from the walls of aquarium.

6. Algaecides- You can also use some widely available algaecides in order to deal with the algae of your aquarium. Algaecides are effective against all types of algae that grow in an aquarium. Various types of algae that grow in an aquarium are- green algae, hair algae, blue green algae, string algae, black beard algae and blanket weed algae.
