How To Get Rid Of Make-Up Stains?

Most women have been faced with make-up stains on a white or light-colored blouse or dress. Many of these women have come up with remedies for this frustrating situation, though there are probably many who still don’t know the best ways to get make-up off of fabric.

If you find that you have a stain like this on your clothing or on any other fabric item, don’t panic. Take a deep breath and do the right things to get rid of make-up stains. In fact, you might be able to remove some stains of this type by washing the item according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Special Techniques
If the stain is fresh, use a clean make-up sponge and rub the spot with a gentle, circular motion. Some people resort to using a piece of white bread if a make-up sponge isn’t available! One of these two items might be enough to take the stain away if it hasn’t started to sink into the fabric. It’s worth a try because you can always try one of the other techniques for getting rid of make-up stains.

Sometimes you have to take soap in hand and use it with some water. This works on stains made by make-up that isn’t oil-based. For example, if the spot is more like a spill of powder or dust (eye shadow, for example) you might be able to make it disappear with soap and water. Be careful not to rub the substance into the fabric. After the stain color is gone, touch up the area with a clean cloth and some water.

What About Baby Wipes!
make up stainsBaby wipes and similar, pre-treated cleaning cloths can be used to get rid of some make-up stains. These may even take off some of the oily, greasy substances like lipstick. You’ll need to dab the stain or blot it rather than rubbing it. The combination of the material used to make these wipes and the liquid cleanser they’re soaked with can remove many make-up stains without further treatment.

If you haven’t considered using baking soda for some of your stain-removal projects, start giving this household item some thought. Baking soda might take away an oily make-up stain when other treatment doesn’t. You can try sprinkling some dry baking soda onto the stain and giving it a gentle brushing with a toothbrush you don’t use anymore.

Some people say that one of the best techniques they have used for getting rid of make-up stains is this: Put some foam shaving cream on the stained area (not the gel type). Dab the spot gently and make sure the entire stain is covered. Rinse the spot with club soda, not water. It’s best not to put the item in the dryer until you are sure the stain is completely removed. *This is not recommended for clothes that are dyed with a dark color.

Of course, you can always try a commercial make-up remover but some of the home remedies work quite well.
