How To Get Rid Of Neck Pain?
Neck pain may have a number of different causes and the variety of pain types means that nearly everyone experiences some sort of neck-pain problem at some point during their lives. People who don’t experience neck pain at all or have occasional minor problems with their neck are probably doing a few specific things that help prevent problems in the neck and shoulder area.
At the top of the list of things to do to prevent neck pain are: exercise, especially gentle stretching and rotation of the neck; diet – eating healthy foods that contribute to overall good physical condition; plenty of water – this is essential to keep the body hydrated and the joints flexible.
Stretching and Strength
If you are suffering from chronic neck pain, talk with your doctor. A thorough examination may uncover a more serious cause than overuse or misuse of the neck. For example, be sure you don’t have a problem with vertebrae or have a muscle tear before you begin stretching exercises. You should never dismiss neck pain as minor until you know exactly what the cause is.
Studies conducted over the last few decades show that people who do specific neck-strengthening exercises and neck-stretching exercises have fewer pains. Some have virtually eliminated neck pain from their lives.
While exercise might be one of the most important ways to prevent or get rid of neck pain, there is much more to this story than exercise. People can also create neck pain by using the neck and shoulder muscles beyond their capacity. In addition, people who work in a standing or sitting position might create problems by holding their head and neck in one position for extended periods of time. Both overuse and poor posture can contribute to neck pain. Muscle tissue becomes inflamed or become tight and sore from extended tension.
Things to Try
Start with some simple stretching and gentle movement, such as lifting your shoulders as if you were going to shrug. Repeat this several times in a session and do it a couple of times each day. Breathe deeply as you lift and exhale as you lower the shoulders. This is as good general workout for the neck and shoulder area. There are a number of other great neck and shoulder exercises, such as rolling the head slowly in one direction, then in the other direction. Do this for a minute or so several times each day.
If you stand or sit in one position for long periods of time, get up and move around several times during the day. Do some of the simple stretching and rotation exercises during your break time. If you can get someone to massage your neck and shoulders occasionally you will get some relief. If no one is available, give a self-massage. Simply do what you can.
Try cool towels or cloths alternated with a heating pad or a cloth moistened with warm water. This will help loosen tight muscles and will also stimulate blood flow. Getting rid of minor neck pain is easy with these simple techniques.
