Most people want to “smell good” so they use a favorite perfume when they go out to dinner, to the theater or to a party. Some people seem to overdo the idea of putting on perfume but there isn’t much you can do about that. However, if you have accidentally spilled perfume or used a bit too much, there are some things you can do to reduce the smell so that it doesn’t overpower you and your friends.

If you have time to wash your clothes, do that first. This will take away any perfume smell that might have been absorbed in the fabric. Remember that some detergents use perfumes and scents to make clothes smell good. You could be exchanging one “aroma” for another. If parts of your body have become saturated with perfume you may have to shower or bathe to remove the excess perfume smell.

If your clothing has an overpowering perfume smell, you may be able to get by with a quick soak and rinse, then a few minutes in the electric dryer. This might be a quick option to use in place of a complete wash cycle. If you have a lot more time you can soak the clothes overnight or for a few hours. Vinegar might be used in this process.
