How to Get Rid of Schizophrenia?

Getting rid of schizophrenia is not as simple as getting rid of a few pounds of extra weight. It’s not a basic process like getting rid of an old collection of clothes and buying a whole new wardrobe.

From the beginning we should understand that schizophrenia is not a mental illness characterized by split personality. This misinformation should be considered a myth and an old wives’ tale. Before we can get rid of schizophrenia we have to understand just what it is. Essentially, a person is schizophrenic when he or she is out of touch with reality. Thought processes are so out of order that people who suffer from schizophrenia have great difficulty with some of the most basic tasks of living.

Where Does it Come From?
SchizophreniaSchizophrenia is a complex condition that still carries some mystery even in the 21st century. It affects a relatively small percentage of the population, with most people experiencing some level of schizophrenia as a young adult. If parents have experienced this condition or if the daily environment is particularly stressful, it is more likely that someone will develop this malady. Medical research also shows that the level of dopamine, a chemical in the brain, is also a determining factor.

Early symptoms include unusual feelings of being tense, not being able to sleep normally, withdrawal from social contact and reluctance to communicate with others as was normal in the past. These outward signs may be noticed rather early, especially by close friends and family members. Symptoms in the middle stages of schizophrenia are more unusual, even frightening – delusions, hallucinations etc.

Treated, not Cured
It’s widely accepted in the medical community that schizophrenia cannot be cured. But it can be treated, to lessen the effects on the individual, on family members and on friends. Treatment varies, depending on how severe the condition is, but generally includes medications, counseling and therapy. Strong tranquilizers may be used. A doctor may prescribe a specific anti-psychotic drug. The key with medication for schizophrenia is finding the drug that helps establish more normal brain chemistry.

People who suffer from milder forms of schizophrenia may be helped by a good counselor or therapist. These trained individuals assist the individual in dealing with stress and events that cause severe anxiety. Eliminating such occurrences can go a long way toward helping the sufferer deal with reality. It’s important to remember that a person with schizophrenia cannot “think his way out of it.” Medical help is crucial.

Family members and friends can help get the individual to a doctor, where proper treatment can be started. If a person is already struggling through a schizophrenic episode, others should stay with them, try to calm them and help them with problems and tasks.

In addition, make sure the individual begins some sort of effective treatment, such as anti-psychotic medication, psychotherapy, individual counseling etc. Getting rid of schizophrenia may not be simple. Ignoring it is simple and is a sure way to make it worse.

Have tried every medication possible and attended some social group but nothing has helped. Been like this for 6 years now. I hear voices really bad, they are very loud most the time. The only thing that seems to help a little bit is to have my dad drive me around for hours on end till the voices slow down. I stay in my room all day everyday and don’t talk to anyone. I sleep for most the day. I just need help. I went to a private hospital and I think the public hospital was better but still nothing has worked. What else can I do. Is there some sought of surgery I could have done to get rid of it?

I have been the same way as you are Haigen, I’m doing better now and I don’t know why, but I was only like that for two years, I used to hear voices every other day or everyday, hearing voices is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. Once, I tried congentin (it’s for cleaning your system) and they killed the voices but then I tried them again they were different they weren’t helping, they’re not all the same. The voices should go away sometime in the future, I don’t think you’ll hear them all the time…I wish I never got this schizophrenia, changed my life forever. When I used to hear voices I used to play chess a lot and they went away. I don’t take any medicine any more, try that too.
