How to Get Rid of Snakes?

There are some locations in the world where snakes are a bigger problem than in other locations. But even in the places where people don’t often come “face to face” with a snake, it may be necessary to have some special information on how to get these members of the animal kingdom to find a new home.

One of the most important bits of information you will need about snakes is this: the difference between venomous snakes and those that are not a threat to humans and pets. Only a handful of snakes in the United States are venomous, for example. In fact, we hear a lot about poisonous snakes but very little about those that don’t pose a threat to us and our animals.

Simply Pick ‘Em Up
It may be necessary to get rid of snakes to protect your children and pets, or just to preserve the peace and mental stability of family members. If this is the case, there are some crucial steps you can take – after you identify what type of snake you are dealing with. If you aren’t sure what kind of snake you see or you don’t want to deal with any snake, get some help!

How to Get Rid of SnakesIf you know the snake is not venomous you can use a couple of simple “tools” to pick that snake up and move it to another location. You can buy a snake hook or special tongs to grip the snake. If you drop it gently into a sack and take it to a remote location you have solved your snake problem, at least for the time being. You may have to repeat this process with other snakes that may come around or if the snake you removed has friends and family in the area.

Prevention
This is a good point to put in a very important bit of information. Some snakes are helpful and you may want to encourage them rather than kill them or remove them. If you have pests such as mice or other small animals, snakes can be your friend. Even so some people want to get rid of all snakes. Start by trying to figure out what is attracting snakes to your property. It may be those mice and other pests. If so, you’ll have to deal with mice and rats first.

If you have plant growth and dark, quiet places for snakes to hide, you can try to eliminate those choice spots. Piles of old lumber, bricks and other debris are perfect for snakes. Cleaning these areas completely will go a long way toward convincing snakes to move to another location. You may also want to install a border fence around your property. This will have to be made with the right materials so that snakes can’t find their way through, under or around.

You may also want to try trapping snakes but you’ll have to invest in a special snake trap that will hold them after they are enticed in. A few companies also offer snake repellants but the effective products are few and far between, according to those who have tried several. As a final choice you may have to call in a professional.
