How To Get Rid Of Sore Throats?

It’s important to get rid of sore throats because of the pain and because of the potential for more serious health problems that can accompany this condition. If you are experiencing general body soreness, joint pain, headaches and fever, you probably need to start addressing the real source of the problem: infection.

But first, you will probably want to reduce or eliminate the pain of your sore throat, so that you can swallow again without wincing. (For long term results, you may have to consult with a doctor to battle bacterial infection, tonsillitis or other malady.)

Be Gone Pain!
You may be able to live with a small amount of throat pain for a day or two, keeping the throat moist with clear liquids and using an occasional throat lozenge that soothes the pain. But if the sore throat continues for several days, it’s probably time to see a doctor and/or try some more aggressive action. The doctor will make a thorough inspection and prescribe antibiotics such as penicillin to fight the bacterial infection.

How to Get Rid of Sore ThroatsAs mentioned earlier, it’s essential to continue drinking plenty of fluids so that the throat stays moist and your body remains well hydrated. This will also help keep the nasal drip flushed away (a key source of throat soreness). Some people take the extra step of putting a humidifier in the room where they will spend most of their time. This helps keep the nasal passages, sinus cavities and throat moist as well, reducing the raw feeling in the throat.

Salt of the Earth
One of the best ways to reduce sore throat pain and attack the bacteria that cause the problem is this: gargle with salt water. This may also work to reduce any swelling that occurs when throat tissue is inflamed. This doesn’t require a lot of salt, just about a teaspoon in a regular size glass of water. Too much salt can make it difficult for you to get the mixture to your throat.

Along with this natural remedy, you may want to try a retail pain reliever, those with ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If you need something other than these over-the-counter products, consult with a doctor first. Combing aspirin with flu symptoms can result in dangerous health conditions like Reyes syndrome. Don’t overdo it with pain relievers, however, because they tend to irritate the stomach. You don’t want to create a whole new pain problem somewhere else.

There are a few other home remedies and natural items that may provide relief from sore throat. Try a small amount of apple-cider vinegar mixed with a glass of water. Gargle with these two or three times each day. Be sure to rinse your mouth and throat with water only after gargling. People have also found relief from drinking chamomile tea on a regular basis during the day. Continue this for the time you have a sore throat. Lemon juice, grapefruit juice and/or honey can also be a great home remedy.
