How To Get Rid Of Ulcers?
This may not be the time and place to discuss all of the varieties of ulcer that can afflict human beings. In fact, skin ulcers, mouth sores and other types of ulcers can be the subject for another article. We will focus on ulcers of the stomach and related body parts, also known as peptic ulcers. While you may think these are relatively minor afflictions the truth is ulcers should never be taken lightly.
This is an open sore in a sensitive part of the human body. We don’t see them because they are in the stomach, the esophagus and sometimes the intestines. You may not see them but believe me, if you have an ulcer you will notice eventually.
Pain, Discomfort
Peptic ulcers affect thousands of people every year. Most of us believe that stomach ulcers are caused by stress or from eating specific foods that are too spicy or “hot.” These things may contribute as an ulcer develops but the truth may be quite different.
Medical experience and research indicates that a certain type of bacteria is responsible for most stomach ulcers. If our stomach is attacked by this little “bug” we might help that ulcer along with poor diet or a hurried lifestyle. But the Helicobacter pylori are a bacterium that might be at the root of most ulcer problems. Tip: In addition to bacteria and poor diet, we might cause the problem to be worse when we overuse some over-the-counter pain relievers. These tend to cause inflammation in the stomach lining.
Treat That Ulcer
If you get a slight burning sensation in your stomach you may or may not have an ulcer. But if you feel real stomach pain a few hours after a meal you should probably give this a bit more attention. Remember that indigestion and nausea are generally associated with stomach ulcers. You can relieve some of this pain with milk or an antacid. Watch for any signs of blood in your stools. This can be a sign of advanced ulcer conditions.
Prevent ulcers from starting with some common sense and moderation. Don’t overuse pain-relief products that contain ibuprofen. These are particularly difficult for the stomach to deal with. If you are taking prescription medications on a daily basis and suspect stomach problems, talk with your doctor immediately.
Your doctor may also be able to prescribe medicines that will eliminate the bacteria that are the source of many stomach ulcers. You can help these medications by drinking fewer alcoholic beverages, smoking less or not at all and increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables in your diet. Find out which foods contain high levels of flavonoids because these may help limit bacteria growth in the stomach. Some ulcer sufferers have had success with herbal supplements. In any case, you should probably choose surgery only as a last resort.
