Vomiting by any other name (throw up, puke etc.) is still an uncomfortable and sickening action. When our stomach rejects the food and drink we put in, the strong stomach muscles expel the contents forcefully. This can be caused by food poisoning, bacterial attack in the stomach or even by problems in the brain (such as tumors). In the latter case the brain and nervous system aren’t operating properly and trigger the vomiting reaction.
The simplest way to get rid of vomiting is to prevent the few conditions that might cause us to throw up. When you experience the early signs of nausea you can take one of the over-the-counter products that suppress nausea and the urge to vomit. Don’t eat or drink dairy products during this time. In addition, stay away from solid foods for several hours, until the vomiting has stopped. Drink more liquids, especially water and beverages that will replace the electrolytes in your system. For future reference, you might think about avoiding meals outside the home. If you have had a bad experience with a particular restaurant it makes sense to avoid that location. If vomiting continues for a full day it is time to see your doctor for a prescription drug to battle nausea. Remember to drink plenty of liquids to stay hydrated. Vomiting dehydrates the system very quickly.
