How To Get Rid Of Yawning?
Yawning is contagious. There are no two ways about it. The reasons for this shared experience vary, depending on who you talk to. People believe that we yawn when we are tired, as a way to let others know we need rest. Yawning may also be caused by the lack of oxygen in the brain, in the body or both. This makes sense because we do get tired when we work hard or play hard. The activity makes it more difficult for the body to maintain the proper oxygen level.
Whatever the reason, we usually find that when someone else yawns we do the same. The first “yawner” might be bored or tired but whatever the reason other people are affected. Yawning at home in the company of family members or close friends is one thing, but yawning at work or during a business meeting is an entirely different matter.
Step by Step
It may be easier said than done, but you should be able to get rid of yawning by sleeping an hour more at night. This may not be a perfect “cure” but it should help reduce yawning caused by lack of energy or low oxygen levels in the brain. Give your body time to rest and recover and you should yawn less.
If your daily schedule allows you time to lie down for a short nap, do it. In some cultures, a nap or daily siesta is quite common. These folks sleep for a few minutes during the day for a very good reason – they have more energy in the late afternoon and evening (and they probably yawn less).
Get more exercise. Even a few minutes of low-level exercise or a brisk, daily walk will increase your overall energy level. Your body will have a sufficient supply of oxygen and you will probably yawn less. Combine this exercise with some changes in how you eat and what you eat. Cut down the amount of food you eat in the middle of the day. Eat more fruits and protein and less sugar-filled foods. Sweet stuff and heavy carbohydrate diets will slow you down and make you feel tired. You will be more likely to yawn when you feel this way. Add more fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet, especially for lunch.
If you find that you still yawn occasionally (you will) try this simple trick to stop that yawn. As soon as you feel the urge to yawn, focus on doing something else. Some people lick their lips, which gives their mouth and face something to do instead of yawning.
