How To Stop Coughing?

Coughing is defined as a sudden expulsion air from the body owing to irritation in the airways or is can be a symptom of some disease which may or may not be serious. Coughing a lot also increases the possibility that the germs that are coming out of your mouth can infect others. With children it often becomes more troubling. But here are some ways you can use to stop coughing.

Why do we cough? What are the reasons behind coughing?

It is important to know that coughing is a natural response of our body to get rid of impurities and waste products that have accumulated in our body because of an illness or some other reason. Wise men would advise you to let the body heal itself hoping that the cough will throw out the impurities, your body will become cleaner and coughing will automatically stop. However, if it is bothering you more than it should; stopping it as soon as possible is not a bad idea!

What can be done?
(1) Take a spoonful of honey and it will help your cough to get better faster.

(2) Take three drops of eucalyptus oil and add into in two drops of thyme oil followed by two teaspoons of melted coconut oil. Rub the resulting solution onto your chest and breathe deeply.

(3) Drinking herbal tea using tussilago farfara (coltsfoot). It is believed to be an effective cough suppressant. The herb is also available in the market as capsules. Consulting a physician or a herbalist is advisable before going for the capsules.

(4) Taking vitamin C is also an option. You can take a teaspoon of it if the medicines are not giving you the desired results.

(5) Reduce the intake of grains and rather opt for fruits and vegetables in your diet.

(6) Drinking a lot of water is an easy solution; it keeps your throat moist.

Cough(7) Taking a warm bath or a shower is a natural way of healing cough. This hydrates throat passages.

(8) Add some honey in a glass full of hot milk and drink it slowly. It would certainly help you have a cough-free night!

(9) Take a damp wash-cloth and tie it around your neck. Cover that with a dry towel. It is found to perform wonders!
Chewing a peppermint candy or ginger bring down the inclination to cough.

(10) Take about 200 ml of cream milk; add a tablespoon of honey into it followed by butter. Heat this mixture till the butter melts, cool it, pour this solution in a cup and drink slowly. It won’t be more than an hour before you stop coughing.

(11) If all that sounds too much, a simpler way is to rub Vicks Vapor Rub at the bottom of your feet, put on your socks and the cough will be gone!

(12) There is also another method, in this you have to stop breathing from your mouth and begin the process of respiration using your nose. This has to be done slowly and for four minutes. The cough will be gone in the fifth minute.

(13) There are medicines, which are popular as suppressants. You can give them a try. They are extremely useful in controlling cough. Dextromethorphan is a commonly used suppressant.

(14) If possible, make your home more humid. It will help keep your throat wet.
