How was the ballpoint pen invented?
About eighty years ago, the first model of a ballpoint pen was patented. But till 1943, a successful ballpoint pen could not be developed. The Americana air force is mainly responsible for the rapid development of the ballpoint pen. The air force wanted a special kind of pen which could be used by airplane crews in flight. They needed a pen which would not spill ink because of the reduction in air pressure at high altitudes. Only the ballpoint pen could be used by them and after the air force demand, the pen was developed very fast and it became so popular that even the common people began to use it.
The body of a ballpoint pen is made up of plastic or some metal. The pen is hollow from inside. The pen has a cap, a spring and a refill. The cap of the pen controls the writing point. The writing point moves up and down with the help of the spring. The refill is made of polythene and it is filled with ink. Thick ink is used in the ballpoint pen to prevent leakage. The flow of the ballpoint pen remains smooth. With the help of these pens, unbroken lines can be drawn.
There are many uses of the ballpoint pen. While using this pen, no inkpot or blotting paper is needed. The ink of this pen does not spill and it writes very fast. There are some disadvantages too. This pen does not make finer strokes or broader ones unlike a fountain pen. While using a ballpoint pen, more pressure has to be exerted, and therefore our hands get tired more quickly, than with an ordinary pen.
