What Are Analog Chips?
Digital chips can process only ON and OFF signals but analog chips can process a wide range of signals. Analog chips are used to read and process a variety of waveforms like speech, music and video. On the other hand, digital chips are used to store and manipulate bits of data in the form of zeros and ones. Therefore, analog chips act as a bridge to the digital world.
Almost all the technologies of today’s world involve analog chips and signals such as internet telephony, digital cameras, cell phones and uploading and downloading images, audio and video files from the internet. Spoken words can be understood by the analog chips only and the digital chips can understand only typed words. Nowadays, the electronic equipment like CD-ROM and DVD are used where the storage is in the form of digital data. There is a contradiction as to how the analog information can be placed in the digital media.
The answer to this contradiction is simple because analog chips convert the waveforms into digital data and at the other end these waveforms are re-assembled back into the original form. Thus analog chips are used as a translator to bridge the gap in the digital word. Only the data that has been converted to digital form is stored in the digital media.
The analog-to-digital convertors (ADCs) are used by CD-ROM to record music. This convertor samples the analog waveforms at a discretionary rate to convert them to accurate digital signals. The higher the rate more will be the accuracy of the reading. The standard rate set for the CD quality is 44,100 times per second.
At the reading end, to play back the music or the movie, a laser is used by the digital-to-analog convertor (DAC) to read pits and lands which reconstitutes the analog waveforms. The waveform generated with the help of a digital blueprint is amplified and sent to the output end. All the components which are used in this process are known as codecs, and only analog chips can understand their language.
Analog chips are used for various purposes in different industries. These are used as sensors to report on the health of a battery, to detect the rise in temperature of a device and to provide accuracy to stored data. The digital media is modern technology to store data, and day by day more developments and researches are being made in the digital world, so most of the media attention is only towards digital world while the analog world incorporates the human environment.
