What Are The Ways To Prevent Global Warming?

The answer to this question comes in many, many parts, since there are dozens of small things that can be done to help slow global warming. Some argue that we will never be able to completely prevent global warming, but even they agree that if enough people take action some of the climate-change might be stalled.

ways-to-prevent-global-warmingOne of the most important things any person can do to prevent global warming is to drive their car less. According to some studies, the carbon monoxide and other toxic gases that are emitted by our automobiles help build a coating or shield of gases in the atmosphere that traps heat. This gaseous shield may also change how plants and animals grow.

Some people are very careful about turning of house lights when they are not in use, simply because turning off a few lights might keep hundreds of pounds of carbon dioxide out of the air. A few other ideas for preventing global warming are: careful management of the heating and air conditioning in the home and office; wrapping hot water heater and perhaps some of the pipes; use the least amount of electrical energy you can by having efficient home appliances.

People have saved a lot of money on heating bills and have probably helped prevent global warming by tightly sealing windows and doors to prevent heat/cool leakage problems. In recent years, some have attempted to “return to nature” at least a little bit, by hanging wet clothes on an outside line rather than using an electrical drier. These same folks have established themselves.

Of course, over the past four or five decades, recycling of consumer waster has become quite common. While this act was once the habit of a few “tree huggers” and “nerds” it is now common practice for men and women in a community to take aluminum cans, plastic bags, glass, newspapers and more to a central processing location. These places supply material to companies that make products from post-consumer waste or they recycle the material for use in the same manner as before.

When the subject of global warming comes up, some people don’t think about the food we eat and where it comes from. But individuals can help prevent global warming by growing only organic food, not the chemically treated stuff that is adding the chemical layer around the Earth during production. It is much more energy efficient to purchase food from the “fresh” section as opposed to the frozen-food units. Fresh foods use a lot less energy getting to your table.

People in communities of all sizes can help prevent global warming by driving individual automobiles less. This means walking or riding a bicycle in smaller communities. It may mean using public transportation more often in larger cities. But in either case, the individual who shares a ride or walks to work is doing his or her part to prevent global warming. Each person has the ability and the opportunity to help prevent global warming.
