What Is A Mongoose Bat?
A mongoose bat is a specifically designed cricket bat for Twenty 20 games. The blade of a mongoose bat is shorter than the usual bat which makes it lighter and its longer handle provides more grip to a batsman. The designers of the bat claim that the bat has been designed on the principle of ‘mass and moment of inertia’. This deals with the effort needed to control the bat during a swing.
The blade of the bat is more rigid than of a conventional bat and the longer handle is more flexible. The blade is 33 percent shorter than a traditional bat and the handle is 43 percent longer. These factors, the manufacturer claims, makes things easier for a batman. Second change in the bat is that the splice is located in the handle of the bat; the traditional bats incorporate the splice into the blade. The designers of the bat claim that the bat is 20% more powerful than a conventional bat and it is 15% quicker.
In spite of the new design a batman doesn’t need to unlearn the way he/she holds his/her bat. The designers made sure that it was easier to play with the mongoose bat, therefore it is held in the same way as the other bats. This makes things easier for the batman. The bat has already been approved by the Marylebone Cricket Club, London to be used in any level of the game.
