What Is China Town?

Chinatown means a part of a city or a town where ethnic Chinese form a majority. They began appearing when the Chinese people migrated to other cities. Thailand and Japan can boast of some the oldest china towns. The Chinese first established them when they came to these countries more than 200 years ago.

Most of the china towns are famous for their restaurants. The Chinese themselves call china towns “Tángrénji” (street of the Tang). It is because Tang dynasty was the zenith of the Chinese civilization. In Francophone nations they are famous as “le quartier chinois”.
