What Is The Meaning Of Stars On The Chinese Flag?
There are five stars to be found on the Chinese flag and four of them are centered on a bigger fifth one. The larger stars symbolize the Communist Party of China and the rest of the four represent the four social classes – the working class, the peasantry, the national bourgeoisie and the petty bourgeoisie. The red background symbolizes the revolution.
The flag was designed by Zeng Liansong of the Preparatory Committee of the New Political Consultative Conference. It is said that the first design by Zeng Liansong was too similar to the flag of the former Soviet Union; therefore he had to redesign the flag. The redesigned flag was adopted on 27 September, 1949. The Chinese flag is known as ‘w? x?ng hóng qi’ in China, which means ‘five star red flag’.
