What Is Whooping Cough?
Whooping cough badly affects the children. It is a dangerous disease as it causes incessant coughing which exhaust the children completely. This disease is caused by bacteria known as haemophilus pertussis. The word ‘haemophilus’ means blood loving and the word ‘pertussis’ means intensive coughing.
These bacteria are also known as Border Gengou bacteria as they were discovered by Jules Bordet of Belgium and Octava Gengou of France. These bacteria are very small in size. The tissues of wind pipe connected to the lungs are attacked by these bacteria. While coughing a child, who is suffering from this disease sprays large number of these bacteria in the air around him. Anyone who is nearby the child may breathe in these germs and catch this disease. When these bacteria attack, the nose starts running and after that he suffer from a mild fever and slow coughing. After two or three days, coughing becomes severe and it lasts for about one to two months. Now a vaccine for this dangerous disease has been developed by the scientists. Generally, this vaccine can be injected to the children with in one or two months after the birth. The vaccine of whooping cough does not give the complete exemption against the disease. Sometimes the children who have been properly vaccinated may also cause this disease. But the attack of the disease is not severe in the case of properly vaccinated child.
