Where Is Disneyland?
There are five Disneylands around the world. Two of them are in the United States and France, Japan and China each have one Disneyland of their own. The Disneyland in Hong Kong, China is the most recently built Disneyland. It was opened to public on 12 September, 2005. The park attracts more than five million visitors a year and the park authorities expect the number of visitors to rise to seven to eight million a year. The Chinese call their Disneyland ‘Xianggang Díshìnílèyuán’.
The first Disneyland Resort was opened by the Walt Disney Company’s Parks and Resorts division in 1955 in Anaheim, California, the United States. It was a theme park and a hotel built on 100 acres of land. It is said that Walt Disney was inspired to open a theme park where adults could enjoy like children when he took his daughter to visit Griffith Park. He hired Harrison Price of the Stanford Research Institute as a consultant to design and build a ‘Mickey Mouse Park’ in eight acres. Walt Disney soon realized that eighth acres could not contain all his ideas, so he acquired 160 acres. To raise the required funds, he made a contract with the ABC television network; it would cost $17 million and a year to complete the project and it was opened on 17 July, 1955.
