Where Is Purdue University?

The Purdue University is located in West Lafayette, Indiana in the United States. This is the oldest of the six universities in the United States using the same name. These universities are from what is known as the Purdue University System. The flagship university was established on 6 May, 1869 and the classes commenced on 16 September, 1874 with just 39 students. Today, the university ranks second in Indiana when it comes to the number of students.

A local businessman, John Purdue, also donated more than $200,000 to the university. The university was the first in the United States to have its own airport, even surpassing the United States Air Force Academy. The university still works with NASA and other aviation agencies to train future engineers and scientists. The famous aviator Amelia Earhart’s plans were also funded by the university. The first man to step on the moon, Neil Armstrong, was also a student of the university. The university has produced twenty two astronauts.
