Where Is The Continent Of Atlantis?
Atlantis was mythical continent which was supposed to have been inhabited by the most advanced civilization on Earth. Depending upon whose theories one believes, the continent was either was in the Mediterranean Sea or in the Atlantic Ocean. Some have even suggested that Atlantis was near the Bermuda Triangle.
The Island of Atlas (Hatlantis nisos) as Plato called it, was first mentioned in his dialogues – Timaeus and Critias. Plato says that the Atlantean civilization lived around 10,000 BC and they were fairly advanced. They lived on a continent called Atlantis. They had machines which flew (airplanes), they could travel under water (submarines), they had an excellent knowledge about the skies (good astronomers) etc. Initially, Plato tells us, they were a kind civilization and they helped other civilizations on the Earth and colonized them. Later, they became power-drunk and started fighting amongst themselves. Continuous wars and the abuse of power broke the civilization and one night the whole continent was drowned in a storm. Plato says it was a revenge taken on them by nature for their misuse of power.
The story of Atlantis is widely considered as a myth, but there are some notable people from almost all walks of human life who believe Plato’s story to be a true account. Edgar Cayce, a self-proclaimed American psychic and Francis Bacon, a French philosopher, were two of them. Some have even proposed that the continent was in the Indian Ocean or Indonesia. All this is near to impossible to ascertain.
