Where Is Villanova University?

It is located in the North-West of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the suburb of Radnor Township in the United States. It is the oldest and largest Catholic university in the commonwealth of the state. Founded in 1842, it is a private university.

Villanova UniversityIn October, 1841 two Augustinians purchased a 200-acre piece of land with the intention of establishing a school. Augustinian College of Villanova was opened in 1842. The institution closed and reopened several times in the initial years of its existence; sometimes because of violence, other times because of financial difficulties etc. However, since September, 1865 it has operated continuously. The school was granted university status on 18 November, 1953. Not even a single woman worked or studied in the Villanova University until 1918. It took another 50 years, however, before the university became fully co-educational in 1968.

The university is spread over 254 acres and the campus is divided into three areas: (1) the Main Campus, which houses the library, the bookstore, administration buildings, educational building etc.; (2) the West Campus, which contains the cafeteria, Law Schools, market and some other administrative buildings etc.; (3) the South Campus; which has residential buildings and Donohue Market etc.

In the late 1890s, the institution was ranked among the best in the United States. Several programs offered by the university are highly regarded. The courses offered by the engineering school of the university are ranked ninth in the nation. The Villanova School of Business was ranked eleventh in 2009 by Business Week.
