Who Invented Lip Gloss?
Lip gloss was invented by Maximilian Factorowitz, commonly known as Max Factor in 1930. He was a Polish immigrant in the United States, where he worked as a cosmetician and later founded the Max Factor Cosmetics Company. Story has it that the lip gloss was invented when he was searching for a way to make the lips of actresses look glossy and attractive when in front of the camera. Two years later, in 1932, the product hit the markets.
Lip glosses can be used with or without lipsticks and like lip sticks, they also come in different forms. Some of the lip glosses are applied directly to the lips while others are meant to be first put on the fingers before they can be applied. The original formula, which was formulated by Max Factor, didn’t change until 2003. Since then, there have been a lot of improvements.
Earlier, lip glosses only made the lips attractive and kissy. They were a cheaper and an easy to use alternative for women who could not afford or didn’t want to undergo any surgery to make their lips look more pleasing. Although the effect didn’t last long, they were still popular among the folks. The current lip glosses also contain sunscreen to protect the lips from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. Lip glosses moisturize the lips, which prevents lips cracking in the winter season. Moreover, some of the lip glosses come with antioxidants and nutraceutical (nutritional) elements. It is not sure if they are effective or not but still, nutraceutical lip glosses are proving to be popular.
