Why Are Some People Left Handed?
We all do most of our work with our right hand, but some people are left handed. Most of the great geniuses of the world have been left handed. The world famous sculptors Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci were both left handed. The parents of the left handed children get worried about this habit of their children and they take pains to correct it. But it is the opinion of the psychologists that if a child is
left handed, he should not be forced to change this habit. Now here is a question: why are some people left handed? When we look at the formation of the body a little minutely, we will see that our body is not fully symmetrical. We find a little asymmetry between the right and the left parts of our body. Normally the right side of the body is a little heavier than the left side. Our brain also has left and right parts. Even the functions of these parts are different. Generally the left half of the brain is ‘predominant’ than right half. In these cases, the nerves from the brain cross over the level of the neck and go to the right side of the body. Such persons do all their works with right hand. But in some cases, right half of the brain is predominant over the left half. In such cases the nerves coming out of the brain pass onto the left side of the body. Such persons do all their works with left hands. This is the reason that some children write and eat food with left hand. In the world most of the people are right handed, therefore the door handles, screw drivers, musical instruments, locks etc. all are designed keeping in view the convenience of the right handed people. The left handed people face difficulties while handling all these but, no problem, they handle them by some means.
