Fans have been eagerly awaiting Blue Lock, the most highest rated soccer manga ever released. But that’s not all, it has been confirmed that the flashy sports series also hit a huge milestone recently. That being having sales of over 10 million volumes. A major feat indeed, but this was to be expected with the recent rise in demand for sports genre anime.
Haikyu!!, Inazuma Eleven, Kuroko’s Basketball, Slam Dunk are all considered classic hits, and are often regarded as the face of the sports anime industry. Now, Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura’s fast paced soccer manga Blue Lock, has also set foot in those ranks.
What is Blue Lock about?

After failing miserably at 16th place in the FIFA World Cup, the Japanese national team is left desperate for a shot at greatness. As a result, the Japanese Football Union hires a mysteriously enigmatic coach, Jinpachi. He sets in motion a project known as Blue Lock, which consists of a rigorous training routine held inside a facility. With the brightest strikers from over Japan joining, Jinpachi becomes determined to forge the greatest striker in the history of the world.
Yoichi Isagi, a striker contemplating whether or not soccer is the path in life for him, enters Blue Lock. Though enrolling with doubt, Yoichi soon realizes why he started playing soccer in the first place, and his hunger to become the ultimate striker in the world continues to manifest. He sets his sights on proving himself superior to his 300 hundred peers, and finally leading Japan to glorious stardom.
The manga officially began publication in August, 2018. Muneyuki Kaneshiro served as the series’ writer, whereas illustrations were handled by Yusuke Nomura. Blue lock has since received regular praise on its portrayal of Japanese soccer, and like its competitors, it has excelled in igniting love for the sport.
