Does Any Bird Eat Stone?

There is only one bird, ostrich that can eat stones. It can even eat the small pieces of iron. It is consider as a greedy bird. Normally the main food of ostrich is seeds, plants and berry. As it can digest all the things easily therefore it can eat iron pieces and stones.

The ostrich is the biggest bird in the world. It is mostly found in Africa. Its weight is about 130 kilograms and the length is up to 2.5 meters. It can not fly because of its small wings. However it can maintain its balance while running with the help of these wings. The feet of ostrich are long but there are only two fingers on each foot.

Its head and long neck is slightly covered with hairs. The male ostrich has dark brown or black feathers and white feet, whereas female ostrich has dull colored feathers. The size of female feathers is smaller as compare to male ostrich.

The eggs of ostrich are very large in size; it measures about 15 to 18 cm in length and about 12 to 15 cm in diameters. Female ostrich lays its eggs in a cave made by 3 or 4 female ostriches. They hatch their eggs by turn. At night, male ostrich hatches the eggs. Ostrich generally produces a whistling sound which is not very sweet. The male ostrich produces a very loud voice, when he meets a female ostrich. We can hear this loud voice from a very long distance. The feathers of the ostrich are very pretty but they can be pulled up very easily. When their feathers get pulled up then new feathers come up. Ostrich can run very fast at the speed of 80 kilometers per hour and it is consider as the fastest running bird in the world.
