What Are The Most Common Types Of Cancer?

Cancer is not a name of some certain disease. Actually it is a special group or class of diseases. In the situation of cancer a particular group of the living cells, losses regulation of cell cycle. These cells are known as cancerous cells. They show un-regulated growth and they spread themselves in the living body by means of lymph or blood. Cancer can strike at any age, 13 % of the health related deaths are because of cancer. According to a recent health survey, in the year of 2007, 7.6 million people died because of cancer strikes.

Types of cancer
The list of common types of cancer includes those cancers which have greatest frequency of diagnosis through out the world. A list published by American Cancer Society, include the names of most commonly occurring cancers. While preparing this list, American Cancer Society used some special standards. According to these standards, a particular type of cancer can be classified as a “common type of cancer” only if more then 35,000 cases of that type are reported in the year of 2008 in USA only.

Skin cancer
From all type of cancers the most common type of cancer is skin cancer (nonmelanoma). More than 1,000,000 cases (new) of skin cancer (nonmelanoma) were reported in the year 2008, in United States only. In this way, skin cancer (nonmelanoma) was classified as the most common type of cancer.

Thyroid cancer
Thyroid cancer is present at last position of this list, because in USA average no. of new cases of thyroid cancer was 37,340 in the year of 2008. Rectal and colon cancers are collectively known as “colorectal cancers”. They are much more common than cases of thyroid cancer.

Kidney cancer
Kidney cancer is classified into two major categories- renal pelvis cancers and renal parenchyma cancers. Around 85 % of the kidney cancers belong to the group of renal parenchyma cancer. It can be classified as third most common type of cancer.

Leukemia
Leukemia itself can be categorized into various types of cancers- chronic lymphocytic leukemia, chronic myeloid (myelogenous) leukemia, acute lymphoid (lymphoblastic) leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia and various other types of leukemia. From all these different type of leukemia cancers, it has been observed that chronic lymphocytic leukemia is the most common type of leukemia cancer. It has also been observed that leukemia is the most common cancer of children.

Osteosarcoma
Osteosarcoma is classified as the most common cancer of teens. Osteosarcoma is a type of bone cancer. Boys are much more susceptible to Osteosarcoma as compared to the girls. Swelling of the leg or arm along with severe pain is a common symptom of the Osteosarcoma. Chemotherapy is the most commonly used treatment for Osteosarcoma. After Osteosarcoma, Ewing’s Sarcoma is another type of the bone cancer. Ewing’s Sarcoma is also very common in teens as well as in young adults. All these types of cancers can be classified as most common types of cancers. Different modes of therapies are available to deal with different types of cancers.
